“Sour Service” refers to a well environment containing Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S), which is hazardous to human health and could significantly impact steel drilling tubulars performance. It is well known that H2S is hazardous to human health, living organisms and generally to the environment.
A sour service pipeline environment is defined by NACE International specification MR017 as “fluids containing water and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) that is a total pressure of 0.4MPa (65psia) or greater, and if the partial pressure of hydrogen sulfide in the gas is greater than 0.0003MPa (0.05psia).”
Historically, this is the reason wells found with Sour Gas were often carefully plugged and abandoned. With the increasing demand of domestic gas worldwide, some major sour fields are now being explored and developed.
The line pipes can be used for a wide range of petrol and gas transportation under sour service
environment.
Sour service line pipes are produced accord to GB/T9711.3 and API 5L/ISO31813-2007 with the main steel material and grade as below. Line pipes can be used for a wide range of conveying of gas, water and oil in petroleum and the tubes are suitable for cold bending and galvanizing at the customer’s request.
Standard:
Application: For petrol and gas transportation under sour service environment.
Line pipe steels used in sour service are prone to hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC) depending on metallurgical and environmental factors. The metallurgical factors consist of alloying elements, microstructure, strength, segregation, and shape of non-metallic inclusions. Some environmental factors which influence HIC, also known as stepwise cracking (SWC), are the partial pressures of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide, temperature, pH of the medium, and aggressive ions, such as chloride. Many failures of sour gas line pipes have occurred around the world as a result of HIC.
